Humanoid robots are starting to play a bigger role in workplaces, from factories to warehouses. However, with their freedom to move around, safety has become a critical concern. Unlike older robots, which worked behind cages, humanoid robots interact directly with people, increasing the potential for accidents.

Figure AI, a robotics firm based in the Bay Area, is tackling this problem head-on. The company recently announced the launch of its Center for the Advancement of Humanoid Safety, led by Rob Gruendel, a former Amazon Robotics safety engineer. Through this division, Figure AI aims to certify its robots' battery systems, safety controls, and electrical components to meet industrial safety standards.

Without specific regulations from OSHA for humanoid robots, companies like Figure AI are stepping in to fill the gap. The company plans to release quarterly updates on their safety progress, which will include robot stability, human detection, and injury prevention.

With other companies like Agility Robotics raising similar concerns, the industry is starting to pay attention to humanoid safety. The real question now is: Will these safety measures be enough to make humanoid robots a trusted part of the workplace?
