Microsoft In Talks To Acquire Tiktok’S U.S. Operations Amid Renewed Interest?
Microsoft is reportedly in discussions to acquire TikTok’s U.S. operations, according to Donald Trump. While details remain scarce, Trump stated that “there’s great interest in TikTok” and suggested that multiple bidders are eyeing the social media giant.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has been linked to a potential TikTok acquisition. Back in 2020, the company was among the top contenders to buy the app when Trump first pressured ByteDance to divest its U.S. business or face a ban. At the time, Oracle was also in the running, though the deal never materialized.
Trump’s latest remarks come after he signed an executive order delaying the enforcement of TikTok’s ban by 75 days. While the app remains operational, it is still unavailable on major app stores. The U.S. government’s concerns over national security and data privacy continue to loom over the platform, keeping its future uncertain.
Interestingly, TikTok has attracted more than just Microsoft’s interest. Perplexity AI, an AI-focused search company, has reportedly submitted a proposal to merge with TikTok. Meanwhile, billionaire Frank McCourt has made a formal offer to buy the platform, and Trump has publicly stated that he would support a purchase by Tesla CEO Elon Musk or Oracle chairman Larry Ellison.
With growing scrutiny over TikTok’s data practices and its ties to China, the race to acquire the app is heating up once again. Will Microsoft finally seal the deal this time, or will another bidder emerge as the winner?
