Welcome to Moi University, where classes kick off with 100% student attendance and 0% lecturer attendance. Yes, lecturers at Moi have downed their tools yet again as the University Academic Staff Union (UASU), and Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU), announced the resumption of the strike on January 10th, 2024. Reason? The government failed to honor the Return to Work Formula they had agreed upon in November 2024.

The strike initially called off on November 30th, 2025, has been reignited due to the university’s failure to honor the agreed-upon terms. At the heart of the dispute lies the implementation of the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), valued at Ksh. 9.7 billion—a commitment the university has yet to fulfill.

Learning activities have halted for the second time this semester, with students learning for less than a month in the first semester. The troubles plaguing Moi have already led students to overstay on campus, with memes about students not graduating spreading all over social media.

Despite the funny memes and jokes going around, the situation remains serious and frustrating, especially for the students, with those studying Medicine and Surgery taking over 9 years in school without graduating. The government has yet to respond to the resumption of the strike.
