'We Want Better' Multimedia University Students Strike Over Poor Hostel Conditions
Multimedia University (MMU) students have launched a major strike, shutting down Magadi Road in protest of deplorable hostel conditions. Organized by the Multimedia University Student Association (MUKSA), the strike has seen students united in their demand for urgent improvements to basic amenities.
The students, who gathered at the iconic "Jobless Corner" from 6 AM, voiced frustrations over the lack of water, unreliable electricity, poor WiFi, and insufficient study seats in the hostels. These issues have been affecting their daily lives, with Sir Remmy, a prominent student leader, stating, "A people united shall never be defeated. When one comrade is wounded, we are all targeted." His words energized the crowd, who felt that the neglect of their needs had reached breaking point.
Among the biggest concerns is the lack of water, which has led to severe hygiene issues. The broken sockets and frequent blackouts have made studying difficult, while weak WiFi connectivity has stifled academic progress, forcing students to rally in frustration.
MUKSA’s call to action was met with overwhelming support as students donned rubber shoes, carried water bottles, and took to the streets, determined to make their voices heard. The university’s management has remained silent so far, but the student body is clear: they will not back down until their demands are met.
This strike marks a powerful moment for student activism at Multimedia University, with hundreds standing together to fight for their right to decent living conditions. As the protest continues.
