He left a suicide note saying the cause was failure to proceed to teaching practice in January of 2025. However, that's not all that he said. On Tuesday, 10th December, he left a detailed and emotional note on his Facebook page. The note mentioned financial hardships, academic pressure, and personal trauma.

Details Of The Facebook Note

He mentioned that his rent was overdue and he had to sell his gas cylinder that had been empty for a week just to survive the exam week. He also mentioned being raised by a single mother and how his upbringing was really difficult. However, the breaking point seemed to have come from a female lecturer named Doreen Mwangi, whom he accused of deliberately failing him.

"You gave me messy results in my first year, and now, even after HOD Linda acknowledged my TP participation ..., this happens," he wrote in the emotional note.“I did everything to keep this semester going, even with the financial constraints, because I knew that in January, when I would be on TP, my parents, who have been reluctant to meet my needs, would have a financial break.

That’s why I had to agree to cover the semester that was considered essential. Doreen Mwangi, you are the worst woman and lecturer I’ve ever encountered. As I told you, you are accountable for anything that happens to me. I had control of it all, but you messed up my only hope. Thanks to you and screw you. If ghosts existed, you’d be the first person I’d visit." Indeed very tragic and heartbreaking words. The University as of writing this has not commented on this incident. His fellow comrades have taken to social media to mourn his death.

Lessons From This Tragedy

The incident is a stark reminder for us to keep checking on our friends. Some of you might say, "Wacha aende, si alitaka kufa..." but the truth is no one knows how it feels to resort to suicide until they come to that point themselves.

It's a painful decision for Ryan and now for his friends and family. May his family have the strength to go through this very difficult time. And let's try to check up on our friends and reach out if we are facing a difficult time. Depression is a disease like any other, let's not be ashamed to seek help.
